the houston zoo has a special every 1st tuesday of the month

entrance into the park after 2pm costs ya nada people!

after a tough morning of work

we decided to join the animals for our noon-time break

{fear not, this rhino is NOT for reals}

kendahl convinced me to go on the merry-go-round

it was fun

...in the end ;)

...also, that nice elephant offered to hold our handbags while we rode

such chivalry!

rest assured:

on a recent shopping trip

i spotted these beauties

i didn't purchase them straight away

because, come on, gold pants...?!

they're not the easiest piece to pull off

but i had them on my mind, and realized i sort of needed them in my life

so i returned to JCPENNY to claim them as my own

well, sad story:

they didn't have my size {although one might be impressed how i squeezed myself into them}

not to mention, they were kinda pricey...for me that is

{i have a hard time spending more than $25 on any item of clothing}

naturally, i decided to take matters into my own hands

enter DYI:goldie-gold pants

i wasn't happy with the outcome of the spray paint alone

to me, the jeans looked more dirty than golden-delicious

good thing i had a back up plan...

key aspects of this DYI that need to be noted:

#1 after letting jeans air dry i placed them in the dryer to heat set

#2 they were very difficult to get on the first time {the paint caused them to shrink a bit, not to mention becoming crispy}

#3 this bottom pic was taken after 5 times in the washer and dryer so the paint really does hold fast

good luck fearless warriors!

*yes, this is me in the music section of the walmart...i was dangerously close to becoming the proud owner of some latino music...word!

we, as h-townies, are deprived of few things

and we're ok with that

however

we (speaking royally as the queen of h-town, naturally)

are upset with the lack of

right now the weather is beautiful

this kit-kat scared the b-geezies out of me today

typically, upon opening the door to my apt,

mr g greets me...slowly stretching his paws

gazing at me with his sleepy eyes

languidly plopping his body on the ground at my feet

ready for a belly rub

and some much deserved attention (according to hims)

not this afternoon!

i came inside

called his name

and again...

just as i was starting to panic (20 min later)

i heard a slight squeak coming from inside the sofa

apparently something terrified my poor mr g so deeply

he burrowed himself in the dark couch and

would not, under any circumstances, come out

i literally had to extricate him...mamma kitty style

:( poor mr puss-puss

in the end i'm pretty sure it had to do something with the city turning off the water to fix a broken pipe out on the street

cause when i flushed the toilet later, the pipes sounded angry...and he flipped out...again

not to worry though, he is currently

lounging (kitty porn style) on his window seat

i learned a new word during tech of THE GREAT AMERICAN TRAILER PARK MUSICAL
{tjuzs} (pronounced: jooj with an accent. the correct spelling was up for debate, but, naturally, i did some research)

in a nut shell

it means to shake things up, to enhance aesthetic quality

i will be using this word in my everyday life...believe it!

below is an easy way to take ordinary wigs from drab to fab

in just a few easy steps

start with a wig

sew in gold metallic thread

...with a hand sewing needle

i doubled my thread

i sewed mine 1" apart

even through the bangs

this technique was prefect for the disco number wigs

the thread caught the stage lights amazingly

and added that extra umph that is always oh-so-importante!

another show!

opening two shows on the same night is just plain crazytown

i would not suggest it...no way, no how

BUT a miraculous thing happened people

i actually went to an opening

i just totally missed my FOREIGNER peeps and had to see the show...AGAIN

it was great...such a fun show

and getting to hang with my girl KENDAHL afterward was just a super duper added bonus

its fantastic!

i opened a little show called I AM BARBIE last night (a world premier even!)

kinda the most enjoyable show i've done in a while

i mean who wouldn't love putting american pop culture icons like BARBIE, KEN, GIJOE, SheRa, and SKIPPER on stage

for days

has been my blind side view, cursing the streets of h-town

just a single pair of men's green undies flappin' in the breeze

sometimes i run so fast all day i don't stop to think about the things that are in plain sight

i had been annoyed by these things for several days before i thought to myself

"i have a pair of men's bright green underwear hanging in my back window"

how does this happen...?

i laughed right out loud!

if nothing else, i can definitely say my work is never boring...

i'm out of vogue, i'm out of touch...

i fell to fast, i feel too much.

recently, i was having a conversation with a newfound friend

i was slightly taken aback when he said to me:

i can tell by talking to you that you are a sensitive person

and probably, in your past, people have said you are perhaps too sensitive

my first instinct was to be offended

i AM NOT too sensitive...i was thinking

but then he added (ish):

society has shaped us to believe that this is a bad thing...its not

being in touch with your inner self,

making a point of showing people how you feel about them

and wanting the same in return

is one of the things that makes you you

embrace it and never apologize

well, my friends,

i truly believe, people are brought into our lives

if even for brief moments, to help us through this....at times, challenging existence

THAT conversation was exactly what i needed at the time

i had been mentally scolding myself for being too sensitive

for caring too much

and for actually...feeling

what a relief, to get such a perspective from my new friend

and if that was not validation enough, a few days later i came across a letter Mom wrote me a lifetime ago in a year called 1992

goodness, i love that gg!

once upon a time in a place called IDAHO

i grew up

i was a summer child there with my cousins and siblings

among the potato plants

and alfalfa fields

running amuck every chance we got

oh, what ridiculousness occurred...every summer...all summer

those were the days, people!

while i was driving around today i spotted this truck (pictured above)

it made me giggle...how ridiculous, yet brilliant...rent a husband!

not sure if it was me giggling or the sight of a trailer but my mind drifted to a summer memory

one night during a very exciting game of {sardines} we all ended up in the back of a horse trailer

we were waiting for the last person to find us

and the anticipation was literally forcing me to giggle uncontrollably

yes, i was THAT girl

i blew our cover

we were found

game. over.

even now, i can't help but smile thinking about everyone getting all ten flavors of salty

what a funny memory...and what a funny business

i wonder if ALL the requests the "rent-a-husbands" get are legit

i'd be willing to bet they have some pretty great stories of their own...

...the days are looking brighter...'bout friggin time!

i had every intention of posting this last night but i was too busy having a good time ;)

yes, today was much improved.....can i get a hallelujah amen peeps!

i love the way time has a way of heeling...life

maybe its my resolution to have a more positive outlook or just my desire to find and create my own personal happiness

can't say for sure, but in any case its working...and i'm going with it

here are a few highlights from yesterday:

*morning marathon episodes of MILLIONAIRE MATCHMAKER

(btw i found out the winky smile-face sign... ;) ....comes from a "sexual" nature...and so, i caution, use it wisely in your comunic-A ladies and gents)

*located missing mammoth water mug...yippee, hidden in plain sight naturally

*spent no less than 30min watching mr g chase the illusive laser...laughing hysterically all the way (sorry mr g!)

*purchased an ENTIRE outfit, including shoes and accessories for under $20

*hung with my {MoCo peeps} at the final dress of LEND ME A TENOR

*was lucky enough to go through "rico suave's" line at the target

*had some much need girl time with my gal pal T

in other news: i had a pretty bad geek out session while doing my {I AM BARBIE} design presentation on monday....that show is gonna be bubbles and kitten, all the way

in other-other news: i'm in full trailer trash mode as {TRAILER PARK} evolves for the second time in my life...woot-woot!

in other-other-other news: april...almost gone...that's crazy-pants! lets enjoy it while we can

...gonna be one wicked wednesday...

revolutionized my life

this afternoon, while sketching at the starbucks

a dude started chatting me up

asking me questions about what i was doing

while i could appreciate his friendliness,

it was a bit distracting

and i didn't get near enough done

any-who...at one point he said

you must really love to draw!

to which i reply

NEGATIVE (mr starbucks)

i, unfortunately, DO NOT love to draw

i am not a recreational sketcher

it does not relax me

it is not fun

i do it because it is a part of my job

in my first design class, i was surprised to find that i was pretty good at it

in graduate school i worked hard to hone my craft

i got better...or is should say

my "characters" greatly improved

this book by Tan Huaixiang is literally SOLID GOLD

one of my most prized possessions, for sure

doesn't make me love to sketch...but it sure helps make things less painfull

Tan (who is a graduate of Utah State) did a workshop
