fancy pants hats

on a budget
i love finding unconventional items to use on my costumes
one of my favorite things to do is walk the isles of the craft or hardware store looking for "ideas"
for this project, i wanted these hats to look as though a child used toys to pretty them up

these spring coils and spikey balls i got in the v-day isle at the walmart
at $2 a piece they were quite the find!
AND i wasn't sure if they would even work but, for that price, i was willing to take the chance

the coils were very stiff and totally stuck together straight out of the package
which was a surprise--not the kind of "slinky" i was used to
anywho, i ended up stretching them so it didn't matter
i pulled them aproximately 18" wide
much to my delight, they curled back in on themselves just like a little flower
and the spikey ball was a perfect center

confession: i'm ashamed to admit that i used HOT GLUE on these hats
big no-no in my world
but i wasn't about to SEW on all those guys

they turned out very cute, if i do say so myself

i got some windmills at the local $1 store for this hat
the big one was $1 and the smaller ones came in a pack of 3 for $1
not bad...not bad, indeed!
