**sigh**
i realized i never posted pics from the show
these are a few of MY favorite shots

fancy pants hats

on a budget
i love finding unconventional items to use on my costumes
one of my favorite things to do is walk the isles of the craft or hardware store looking for "ideas"
for this project, i wanted these hats to look as though a child used toys to pretty them up
Photobucket
these spring coils and spikey balls i got in the v-day isle at the walmart
at $2 a piece they were quite the find!
AND i wasn't sure if they would even work but, for that price, i was willing to take the chance

the coils were very stiff and totally stuck together straight out of the package
which was a surprise--not the kind of "slinky" i was used to
anywho, i ended up stretching them so it didn't matter
i pulled them aproximately 18" wide
much to my delight, they curled back in on themselves just like a little flower
and the spikey ball was a perfect center

confession: i'm ashamed to admit that i used HOT GLUE on these hats
big no-no in my world
but i wasn't about to SEW on all those guys
Photobucket
they turned out very cute, if i do say so myself

i got some windmills at the local $1 store for this hat
the big one was $1 and the smaller ones came in a pack of 3 for $1
not bad...not bad, indeed!
Photobucket

3 straw hats purchased at local thrift store
large ric-rack from HOBBY LOBBY
felt buttons and flowers & ribbon found at JOANN
total cost for all 3 hats= approximately $15

nasty gal

in the midst of my searching and research i often find amazing things. really, what WOULD i do without the internet? anyway, for KATE i came across this online store that sells vintage items along with new "trendy" fashion i.e. these side drape leggings.
well it just so happens that the name of the site is NASTY GAL
interesting name for an interesting store AND, i'm sorry to report if the precise url is not typed in, a much racier site pops up ("my eyes, my eyes, are burning")
here's where it gets funny...
i've been using a credit card that does not belong to me for purchases of KATE (to alleviate reimbursement issues) so i make about a $350 purchase at NASTY GAL which of course, (with a name like that) flags the credit card company...
the owner of the card has to call and get it sorted out, assuring them that, YES, he usually does not shop at such stores but, NO, it was not a wrongful transaction, yada, yada, yada.
fast forward a couple days, the post woman knocks on the door to deliver the box while i am teaching so nate opens the door

post woman: i got a box here for macylyne
husband: yes that's my wife
post woman: (eye brows raised) enjoy...!

who knew one website could create so much excitement
just another day in the life of a costume designer

...this is what happens...

when you sew 90 miles an hour running over everything and i mean EVERYTHING in your way. don't get me wrong, i've sew over my fair share of pins in my lifetime but i have never actually sewn a pin TO a garment & had to seam rip it off...until now!
surprisingly enough, the pin, aside from the hole clean through the head as demonstrated by my earring, was completely unscathed.

...sneak peek!

BUD NOT BUDDY
MST: Youth Theatre
1st Dress:Chronicle Pub Shots
this is the lovely cast for "Bud Not Buddy" they have been amazing to work with & I simply adore the script, costumes & overall show design. Keep in mind this is a first dress shot so these costumes still need a little TLC!

While shopping this show, I developed a love affair/obsession with some suit shops here in town. Can I just say STACY ADAMS!!! I feel like I am going to have to dedicate an entire post just to them sometime soon...stay posted!

The show opens Tuesday & will be going on tour to schools throughout the city.

...Piazza prizes...for ME!

to:ME
from:ME
after 2 1/2 weeks of literally working sun-up to sun-down on "Piazza" I thought I deserved a treat, and since there is nothing quite like a pair of pretty shoes to make me happy, I just had to get these gorgeous little numbers. I guess they don't call me Purps for nothin'!
to:ME
from:NATE

I spyed this while doing some shopping at a vintage boutique here in town. It just happened to be waiting for me on the counter when I got home. Oh, and I LOVE IT!

January 9, 2009

YAY!

"PIAZZA" opened last night, wahoo! i opted not to see the show but enjoy a nice meal at the Macaroni Grill instead--too bad the whole time i felt like i was going to doze off and wake up with my face in my pasta dish (pretty sad when the waiter even said i looked sleepy) not to mention that i kept my phone very handy in case i got an emergency costume call (almost like a mother worried about a child left with a sitter for the evening!) but alas, i did not fall asleep and i did not get an emergency phone call. once home in bed, i slept all through the night, feel especially rested this morning and have a big day of clean up a head of me. i will post pictures later...
