AH-HEM

this tutorial will teach you how to get a professional hem on ANY pair of jeans! it's so easy EVEN YOU CAN DO IT!!! i like to think of it as sewing a big grow tuck in my jeans (that then gets cut off, turned in, and top stitched)
HAPPY HEMMING!!!

1) try on jeans (i like to wear shoes when i do this so i know how they will look) and fold the hem up to length desired (i decided to make these pants into capris so i am taking quite a bit off.)
2)measure the amount of the folded up hem
3)MATH TIME! (i like to jot my numbers down on a piece of scrap paper so i can see it all written out--cause i'm a bit crazy that way) take the amount originally measured and divide it by 2 (7 1/2 / 2=3 3/4) 3 3/4 is the amount you will fold up the hem

4)if you don't have a seam gauge--GET ONE! they are great for measuring
5)VERY IMPORTANT make sure you pin the seam so that the two ends match up exactly (see image 6)
7)if your jeans are flared the circumference of the edge you are raising will be greater than the edge you are hemming to (i really hope that makes sense) LUCKILY most jeans will stretch slightly as you stitch just make sure you pin the two sides together evenly to avoid large puckers

8)stitch along the fold of the original hem
9)double check the length by trying jeans on with hem folded up into pant leg
10)trim off excess denim, leaving about 1/2"-3/4" of an edge.
11)i like to save the scraps for future projects or later patching needs WASTE NOT, WANT NOT

12-13)finish edge with either a serged or zig-zag stitch
14)in the words of GG, "a good seamstress ALWAYS presses her seams!" press the serged edge up toward the waistband
15)top stitch about 1/4" away from new stitching line

VOILA FINI
